What is myskin™?
Myskin™ is a living skin dressing which can heal chronic wounds and ulcers. Myskin™ is made with cells from each individual patient, grown in a dedicated laboratory. This means you will receive a treatment tailored to your needs and supplied through your clinic or treatment centre during your regular wound dressing visits.
Myskin™ is produced using established methods which multiply cells outside the body to produce an equivalent to epidermis, the outer layer of skin. The type of cells used to produce myskin™ are called keratinocytes. These are the cells that heal skin by regenerating the epidermis and closing the wound.
While myskin™ is in production, your clinic will treat the wound so that it is free from infection and has a granulating base which is ready for coverage with your own cells.
To produce myskin™ cells are multiplied and then attached to a thin backing material and supplied as discs, 5cm in diameter.
Why has myskin™ been recommended for me?
Skin wounds and ulcers affect many people and the healing response can vary widely according to numerous factors. When a wound does not heal, the use of a living, skin-equivalent has been successful at initiating the healing process and in a majority of cases the wound heals completely.
