myskin for patients

What is the treatment?

Your doctor or nurse specialist will study your case carefully and will examine the wound. You will be asked some questions about your medical history and lifestyle. You may find the questions asked don’t apply to you but they are similar to those asked if you were to donate blood. In most cases a small blood test will be taken to check for viruses and the wound will be swabbed to assess its condition. These tests are carried out are to ensure that CellTran comply with government guidelines and more importantly will also safely handle and store your cells during your treatment.

The doctor will then take a small biopsy of skin. This will be very thin (<1mm) and will be taken under a local anaesthetic so you should not experience undue discomfort. The biopsy site will be covered with a plaster and will usually heal completely within a week. The biopsy will be sent to the laboratory where myskin™ will be produced.

Myskin™ uses cells isolated from this small amount of your own tissue, so you will receive back only your own cells, grown to the optimum condition for wound healing.

Within 1-3 weeks myskin™ will be ready to apply to the wound. In the intervening time the clinic will care for your wound using the most appropriate method.

Myskin™ will be applied in the clinic at the same time as a standard dressing change and is quick and painless. This may require one or several discs of myskin™ until the majority of the wound is covered. A second dressing holds the discs in place and then an outer bandage is applied.

The dressings are left on for three or four days after which time myskin™ should be removed and discarded and the wound should be redressed.
At the next visit to clinic the wound will be examined and if necessary myskin™ will be reapplied until healing occurs.

Is the treatment safe?

Many patients have been treated with myskin™ over a number of years. Patients have reported reduced pain and even increased feeling in neuropathic feet. No side effects have been reported as a result of the use of myskin™. Of course, as with any clinical treatment, side effects are possible and if you do experience any unexpected symptoms, seek advice from your doctor or nurse specialist on the appropriate course of action.

What are the benefits of this treatment?

Most patients treated with myskin™ experience either complete wound healing or significant wound closure. However success of the treatment is not guaranteed. It is important to comply with all instructions from your clinic on support and wound dressing. Treatment with myskin™ can be carried out for hospital outpatients. The outer dressings used will be similar to those you may have had previously.
