Clinical use of myskin™

Treatment schedule

We have developed an outline schedule of events from the time you order myskin through to the completion of treatment.

Once the patient has been referred one of our team will come to assess the wound. We will offer guidance on achieving the ideal condition of the wound prior to the application of myskin. An assessment of the wound condition will be made, so that an appropriate myskin treatment programme can be arranged. A biopsy may be taken at this time or after wound optimisation (see below).

After one to two weeks lead time, the first application will be brought to the patient by the same team member who assessed the wound. They will explain how to apply myskin, advice on which secondary dressing is suitable and suggested dressings to use between applications.

Over the subsequent weeks the dressings will be delivered by overnight courier to the clinic. CellTran will remain in contact with the clinic to receive updates on the progress of the wound and coordinate continuing supply of myskin.

The team member following the patient will visit at the fourth application to reassess the wound and ensure the wound is progressing as would be expected at this stage. It will also give us an indication as to how many more applications will be required.

On a fully optimised wound, initial epithelialisation is often observed after 1-3 weekly applications of myskin. The wound may start to look shiny or have the appearance of a film covering the wound bed. This is normal and should be left undisturbed. You may also notice islands of skin developing away from the wound edges, again this is normal. A full course of treatment would usually comprise 6-8 applications. Further applications can be produced from the initial cell stock without a repeat biopsy.

During the time that Myskin is being used no active dressings should be applied to the wound as these products may damage the keratinocytes which have been previously introduced to the wound. Also try to avoid cleaning the wound in any way as this may hamper cellular activity.
