Frequently asked questions

Is the treatment safe?

Many patients have been treated with myskin™ over a number of years. Patients have reported reduced pain and even increased feeling in neuropathic feet. Side effects have not been reported as a result of the use of myskin™. Of course, as with any clinical treatment, side effects are possible and professional medical advice should be sought.

What are the benefits of this treatment?

Most patients treated with myskin™ experience either complete wound healing or significant wound closure. However success of the treatment is not guaranteed. It is important to stress patient compliance with, for instance, offloading and wound dressing. The dressings and care regime will not significantly alter from best practice while patients receive treatment with myskin™.

Can patients receive treatment as outpatients?

Patients who receive myskin continue to be cared for in the existing setting. If the patient attends an outpatient clinic, this is most likely to continue and they would not need a stay in hospital. Of course, responsibility for care continues to rest with the existing doctor or nurse specialist.

Can patients who do not attend a hospital clinic receive myskin™?

Myskin™ is supplied to qualified practitioners who can ensure there is adequate infrastructure to support a high standard of care. The decision on treatment of a patient in community based care rests with the local healthcare authority. Provided care can be guaranteed and a biopsy is taken by a qualified surgeon then patients may be treated with myskin™ outside of a clinical setting.

Is myskin™ available outside the UK?

Currently myskin™ is available in the United Kingdom only. Altrica are working with healthcare partner organisations to deliver myskin™ internationally in an effective manner.
